Biography

         Gerald Laing was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1936. He studied at Saint Martin's School and started his career as a Pop Artist in the early 1960's. Some of his earliest works which were largely copied from newspaper photographs have become iconic images of that erancluding Starlets and most importantly Bridgette Bardot. Laing was much more than a Pop Artist. He produced successful abstract paintings and masterful traditional monumental sculptures. Gerald Laing who died in November 2011 has work in important collections worldwide including the Tate, the Victoria and Albert as well as the Whitney Museum, MOMA and the Smithsonian Institute.
