Biography

In the last few years, Wolfgang Grinschgl, a self taught painter, has been involved in numerous exhibitions, both group and solo, taking place in Austria, Germany and Slovenia. In the production of many faces, which lie somewhere in-between self portraits and nature, his works are found in a world somewhere between fear and pure aesthetics. Large format grimaces and facial expressions are combined with country side motifs, embellished with a variety of clouds and lighting based on his studies of the old masters. Transferring style and techniques his works creates associations with Francis Bacon. He paints in five layered oil techniques, starting from the darkest colours and finished lighting with white. Encountering his works they draw you into their depths and spellbind you, creating a feeling of falling into his works of art.
